2025 vs. 2026 Ford Mustang: What's New for Birmingham Drivers

If you love a good sports car, you may already have your eyes on the 2025 vs. 2026 Mustang. But which is best, and is it worth waiting and paying more for the new release? This guide will compare the current vs. new Ford Mustang in terms of performance, interior features, and what's new to help you decide.

Performance Upgrades and Engine Options Compared

Both the 2025 and 2026 Mustang deliver thrilling power across trims, with the EcoBoost's 2.3-liter turbocharged engine pumping out 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. GT models in either year pack a 5.0-liter V-8 with 480 horsepower and 415-418 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic on the 2025 model or a 10-speed or 6-speed manual for 2026. The Dark Horse ups it to 500 horsepower from the same V-8 for track-ready punch.

There are no major engine changes for the 2026 lineup, so if that is what you have your heart set on, you will do well with either choice. That means the same 0-60 mph speed figures too: 4.2 seconds for the Mustang GT with the performance exhaust system and 4.5 seconds for the EcoBoost. The Dark Horse is the speediest at 4.1 seconds.

Design and Exterior Styling Changes

The 2026 Mustang evolves its aggressive stance with new Oxford White wheel designs, badging (5.0-liter, GT, and Pony logos), white grille nostrils, and white-out taillight accents as part of a new FX appearance package on GT Premium. The Fastback models get a wedge decklid spoiler and exclusive rear window graphics. The spoiler delete option is now included with the convertible model, and the finish on the machined-face 18x8 wheels has been updated. Pony puddle lights, previously standard, are now limited to the premium 401A package.

The rest of the lineup gets an updated white-color version of the current 19-inch split-five-spoke wheels. Inside, you will find plaid perforated leather seat inserts, blue and silver contrast stitching, and carbon fibre trim from the Dark Horse. Even if you don't opt for the FX package, you will still enjoy new updates like Adriatic Blue Metallic on all models, and the Orange Fury colorway also returns with a vengeance after being discontinued back in 2019. Wimbledon White and Intense Lime Yellow paint options are no more for the 2026 model year.

Interior Comfort, Technology, and Driver Features

Inside, the 2026 Mustang still features standard SYNC 4 infotainment on a 13.2-inch touchscreen and a 12.4-inch instrument cluster offered on the 2025 model. However, the 2026 model's version sees faster response times, and a new optional magnesium-framed curved display is available on select 2026 equipment groups. The new model also adds personalization options, better voice commands, and a new Connectivity package with features like a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Both model years feature wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an optional wireless phone charger for staying connected on longer Gulf drives. A Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker sound system is available on higher trims for both model years. Driver-assistance tech is the same, both offering standard adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, along with optional active pothole mitigation with the Performance Pack.

Handling, Ride Quality, and Driving Experience

Subtle suspension tweaks define the 2026 Mustang's edge, with retuned adaptive dampers helping to balance daily comfort on I-65 potholes and razor-sharp handling through the backroads of Alabama. Revised steering calibration makes it feel more planted and responsive than the 2025 model, without losing that raw Mustang thrill during adrenaline-pumping drives.

An available MagneRide Damping System is available on both model years to offer more flexible adjustments. Both also have Brembo brakes on higher trims to provide fade-resistant stopping power, so you can feel more confident if you are carving through Cheaha State Park curves or commuting in everyday traffic.

Comparing the two, the 2025 model offers a sportier, firmer ride feel, while the 2026 model's new suspension offers a smoother daily drive. The 2025 model focuses on a more "raw" performance experience, whereas the new model has a more refined driving feel that balances everyday comfort and performance.

Pricing, Trims, and Value for 2026 Buyers

There's just a slight increase in price with the base Fastback model starting at an MSRP of $31,920 for the 2025 model and $32,320 for the 2026 model. Higher trims rise in price respectively, with the GT Fastback sitting around $46,560, and Dark Horse Premium hitting over $69,000, closely mirroring the 2025 figures of $45,460 for the GT and over $67,000 for the Dark Horse Premium.

The trim lineup spans nine trims, including the EcoBoost, Premium or Convertible variants, GT, GT Premium, Dark Horse, and Premium. Higher trims have the FX package, which boosts GT Premium value with exclusive retro style. If you can afford it, we believe the trims with the V-8 engine offer the best value, particularly with the 6-speed manual transmission in the GT Coupe.
